A brief description of the student group:
Eco is Michigan State University's student sustainability organization. The group was founded during the summer of 1999 and has been active ever since. Eco works on the local, statewide, and national level to promote sustainability with tenets such as recycling, conservation, efficiency, and renewable energy. The group works closely with administration and other organizations on campus, including the Office of Campus Sustainability Be Spartan Green Initiative and other student organizations such as the Student Sierra Club and MSU Greenpeace. Specific actions include lobbying administration and politicians for positive change, organizing environmentally friendly events, and serving as a hub for student environmental news and networking. Eco also participates in tabling events for eco-friendly causes, which involves setting up areas during student orientation events, resource fairs, and in high traffic areas on campus to present information on organization events and initiatives.
