A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
Each year the Office of Campus Sustainability includes new student orientation programs in their internal programming strategy. Participation in new student orientation programs, or welcome events, initiates student's familiarity with university sustainability goals and initiatives. The office provides information on university initiatives and sustainable items at orientation fairs and events for both broad and targeted audiences including: Graduate Student Orientation Resource Fair, International Student Welcome, U-Fest and Sparticipation. These efforts reach approximately 11,000 new students each year. Each orientation event is organized by a different office, so there are multiple websites for the welcome events. Graduate Student Orientation Fair - www.grad.msu.edu U-Fest - http://uabevents.com/ Sparticipation - http://www.vps.msu.edu/ On-campus welcome events assist new students in acclimating to university life by encouraging participation in activities such as student groups, clubs and organizations. These events also help students recognize peer-to-peer and programmatic resources available to them at the university.
