Name of the student educators program (1st program):
Eco-Reps

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
This is a program of student volunteers who work with staff in Miami's Office of Residence Life to provide leadership and peer-to-peer education related to sustainability in their residence halls. The Eco-Reps develop and distribute information about sustainable practices and Eco-Facts. They conduct periodic trash audits where trash is weighed, sorted, and re-weighed to determine the amounts of trash that could have been recycled. This information is then shared with the community. They participate in campus events such as MegaFair and Earth Fest. They coordinate specialty recycling in the residence halls.

Between November 10th, 2020 and November 9th, 2021, MU EcoReps:
- Conducted 8 trash audit events of 29 residence halls.
- Hosted 5 retreats (1 in-person and 4 online)
- Sent out 376 EcoFact emails
- Hosted 22 other events including hikes, handing out water bottles, going to the Institute for Food Farm, making terrariums, and a plant walk.
- Hosted 27 General Body Meetings (11 in-person and 16 online)

A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (1st program):
Eco-Reps targets students living in residence halls. We estimate in a given year, roughly 83% of the student population either lives in a residence hall or has lived in one during their time at Miami University. Thus, they target a significant portion of Miami University students.

According to the current EcoReps:

Currently (as of 2.14.22), Eco has about 100 EcoReps on the roster with varying levels of involvement, and 220 people on our email list.

EcoReps are generally active 30 weeks of the year. The leadership team holds meetings and optional retreats for general body members over winter break and works on the water bottle project during the summer.

The average engagement is 2.5 hours a week. Members are expected to attend a weekly one-hour meeting, one-hour community leadership, 3 trash audits in a semester, and 30 minutes creating and administering an eco-fact for their residence hall.
