Students are prepared to pursue a wide variety of career paths and post-graduate degrees in sustainability, especially those with design, management, and policy specializations. The Sustainability Co-major complements the primary major, which provides significant depth and breadth in an academic discipline.

Energy is one of the most important issues of our global modern society. A sustainable energy future will require engineering, scientific, economic, and policy approaches working together to meet the technological, institutional, and environmental challenges. The goal of an Energy Co-major is to provide students with core interdisciplinary training in energy that complements their disciplinary majors in engineering, natural sciences, architecture, business, and the social sciences. This co-major exposes students to the principles of energy production and distribution, energy supply and demand, pollution control and building systems, and energy policy and regulation. Students can pursue career paths in the energy industry and startup companies, consulting firms, and non-profit organizations.

Special importance in this minor is increasing student understanding of the issues and problems faced by the majority of global citizens who live in less industrial or less economically developed parts of the world.
