A brief description of the sustainable operations and maintenance policy/program and/or O+M rating system(s) used:
Building 36 also known as the Shouse building was previously LEED O+M certified in 2015-2020. As we look to renew our LEED certification in the future, the Shouse building continues to operate at LEED standards and support sustainable operations. All 6 additional buildings on campus are operated at the same sustainability standard as Building 36. The following indicates the sustainability focus of the operations and maintenance of all buildings on campus.
- Waste Management: All buildings on campus have mixed recycling, composting, and trash receptacles throughout. Each bin is equipped with a sign indicating which items belong in the bin and which do not.
- Green Cleaning Program: The IHP has implemented a Green Cleaning Program in all buildings based on the guidelines of the Green Seal Environmental Standard for Cleaning Services that aims to protect human health without harming the health of the environment. To reduce the adverse impacts of cleaning, products and materials used throughout campus are certified by either Green Seal® or the EcoLogo®.
- Temperature Management Policy: The IHP has adopted a formalized temperature management policy for indoor temperature ranges that aims for room temperature to be 72 degrees Fahrenheit during schedules hours of operation and within seasonally adjusted ranges when buildings are closed. All lighting, heating, and cooling systems also operate based on occupancy.
- Water Usage Reduction: All faucets in restrooms have been replaced with low water flow faucets. Toilets and urinals also have low flow flush-o-meters and sinks in the kitchenettes have 0.5 gallon/minute aerators on them. Water bottle refill stations also promote reusable bottle usage.
-Lighting: All lighting systems operate based on occupancy, 90% of light fixtures in the Shouse building have been converted to LED for energy conservation, Emergency Batteries lighting units are all LEDs.
- Energy Star Products: The Energy Star Procurement Policy in place for all buildings across campus ensures the purchasing and leasing of ENERGY STAR© certified resources when such products exist and whenever financially and operationally feasible. This program attempts to achieve optimal energy efficiency and cost savings for the products and services regularly purchased and leased by the Institute.
The 1 & 2 Constitution Wharf buildings are both Fitwel 2-Star Certified for 2022-2025 and are included under the total floor area certified at any level under a non-GBC rating system.
