Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Student Career Closet Pop-up
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
To help provide low-income students with professional clothing for use during job interviews, poster presentations, and other professional opportunities, a Career Closet Pop-up was created in 2023. For one month, a clothing drive was conducted where faculty and staff could donate their clean, gently used professional clothing. Email blasts were created to outline which items were accepted and where they could be dropped off.
Once the donations were collected and sorted, items were set up as a pop-up shop with clothing on racks and folded on tables. For one day, students were able to stop by the shop to try on and take home as many clothing items as needed. All items were provided to students for free. Approximately half the clothing donated was taken by students and the rest were donated to the Big Brother Big Sister organization.
The 2023 Career Closet Pop-Up was part of a series of events held during April's Earth Month to promote sustainability on campus and a culture of reuse. The donation of clothing by faculty & staff prevented these items from heading to the landfill.
