Local advocacy
A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:
In the summer of 2023, members of the IHP's Center for Climate Change, Climate Justice, and Health Steering Committee participated in a Mothers Out Front (East Boston) Advocacy call where they engaged in letter writing campaign related to the idling of cars at Logan Airport. Mothers Out Front is a non-profit organization that aims to protext children from the impact of the climate crisis that impacts their health. The East Boston chapter is fighting for the right to breathe clean air and live and work in a community that is safe and healthy- one initiative has been to push forward an act improving air quality in airport environmental justice communities. The Climate Center also invited a resident of East Boston and Mothers Out Front member to the IHP in the summer of 2023 for a lunch and learn related to air quality issues in East Boston. The Center for Climate Change, Climate Justice, and Health is endorsed by the IHP's School of Nursing dean and the IHP's president.
