A brief description of the institution’s discrimination response protocol or team:
MCC employs a Student Grievance Procedure for Alleged Discrimination. This was last updated on 2-10-2017. The purpose of this document is to establish procedures and responsibilities respecting grievances of prospective, present, and former MCC students alleging discrimination on the part of the College or in the course of the College’s programs or activities.

The student who believes he or she has been subjected to unlawful discrimination should report the matter to the Dean of Student Advocacy and Accountability using the Studnet Grievance Alleging Discrimination form. If the grievance includes this Dean, the grievant may notify the Associate VP of Human Resources, who in turn will notify the Dean. The Dean is responsible for taking immediate and appropriate investigative and corrective action. Additionally, MCC has a policy Prohibiting Harassment of Students. This policy forbids the harassment of students. Harassment includes, but is not limited to, sexual harassment, racial harassment, religious harassment, and harassment based on or because of a person’s age, national origin, marital status, ethnicity, disability, or sexual preference.

The purpose is to prohibit harassment of students and to establish procedures for making, investigating, and acting upon complaints and reports of harassment.

The Office of Equity and Diversity in conjunction with Human Resources has developed a list of Historically Black Universities and largely Hispanic-Serving Institutions (4-year) with Graduate programs that MCC specifically sends all Faculty postings to as to reach a wider audience for those that may qualify for our faculty positions.

In addition, we always have a woman and a person of color on every job search committee.

MCC has made every effort to establish an open and supportive learning environment for all students regardless of a person’s age, national origin, marital status, ethnicity, disability, or sexual preference. To this end, MCC offers programs that support students of underrepresented groups.

MCC is proud to support Veterans. MCC has a Military/Veterans Services Office to assist active-duty, reserve and guard service members; veterans; spouses; and qualified dependent students, enabling them to succeed in their educational and career goals.
To achieve this, Military/Veterans Services provides timely, specific, and authoritative guidance regarding educational benefits and support services tailored to meet individual needs while empowering students during new ventures in their lives.

TRIO - TRIO is Educational Opportunity for Low-Income and First-Generation college students. TRIO Student Support Services program provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and serves to motivate students toward successful completion of their educational goals. The goal of SSS is to increase the retention and graduation rates of its participants and facilitate the process of transfer to a four-year institution. In addition, through TRIO MCC also offers Single Parent/Homemaker Services in which they assist to facilitate student learning, self-sufficiency, and personal and career development that includes an implementation of education plans, which are compatible with the life and career goals of our students.

Heartland CAMP - provides intensive academic, social, and financial supports to help students from migrant farm-work backgrounds successfully complete their first year of college and continue in post-secondary education. Heartland CAMP serves students across three states and four colleges. Students at MCC receive advisement, a support group, a surface laptop for a loan, a stipend, and at the end of their first year, they are permitted to keep a laptop if they have a 2.75 cumulative GPA.

Disability Support Services - MCC has been serving students with disabilities since the late 1970s. We currently serve the largest number of students with disabilities of all the post-secondary schools in Nebraska.

Students with disabilities who meet the academic and technical standards for participation are eligible to request accommodations to achieve equal access. Qualified students are accommodated when they disclose their disabilities and request accommodations. The Disability Support Services Staff at MCC is committed to providing access for students with disabilities.

All Metropolitan Community College activities, organizations, courses, and academic and technical programs are open to all students. College facilities are, as a whole, accessible to persons with physical disabilities via ramps, automatic entrances, and elevators. Accessible restroom facilities, parking spaces, telephones, and water fountains are also available.

During 2020-2021, there were two sessions as a part of the Equity and Inclusion training series on supporting students, staff, and faculty of color, which had high participation rates.
