Does the institution have significant contractors with employees that work on-site as part of regular and ongoing campus operations?:

On-campus dining halls are overseen by a contracted food service provider. In addition to this, the university contracts firms for some cleaning services and some security services.

Custodial Services: McGill has its own custodial services for some buildings, and these employees’ working conditions and salary are developed through collective agreement. Contracted custodial services either have their working conditions and salary negotiated through collective bargaining and adopted by ministerial decree or negotiated up from minimum wage, but in both cases McGill contracts apply the annual increases consented by ministerial decree (i.e., Le Décret sur le personnel d’entretien d’édifices publics de la région de Montréal)

Employees receive an hourly rate that respects Quebec's minimum wage ($15.25 as of May 1, 2023); all unionized employees have a minimum hourly rate that is higher than Quebec's minimum wage. Regular employees also have benefits, including: Group Insurance (Health, Dental, Short/Long-Term Disability, Basic Life, Optional Life, Accidental Death), Pension Plan, EFAP, Staff Fitness Program, Tuition Assistance, etc.
