"Building on our current commitment to preparing our graduates to be global citizens and to play critical, sustainability-driven roles in our communities, McGill's Strategic Academic Plan is evolving to emphasize that during their time at McGill, students should gain essential knowledge of sustainability that will enable them to address interdependent economic, environmental and social challenges our world is facing. Measures and key performance indicators will be put in place to ensure progress towards this objective."

Moreover, McGill's Sustainability Policy, approved by Senate in December 2023, was updated to include the following objective: to "foster inquiry into sustainability through teaching, learning, research and the university experience, with the expectation that students will graduate with an understanding of sustainability and the ability to address sustainability challenges in a global context."

Current initiatives that contribute to the added statement and to the institution-wide sustainability learning outcomes include a university-wide sustainability module and a university-wide Climate Crisis and Climate Actions course (FSCI 198).

Sustainability programs are derived by Analysis, Planning and Budget by taking the filtered list of Sustainability courses provided by the McGill Office of Sustainability (2020-2021; same list as in credit AC-1), and flagging programs in the E-Calendar where these courses are considered to be a "REQUIRED" component of the curriculum in 2020-2021.
