A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:
McGill's downtown campus and Macdonald campus are both included within the institutional boundary used to delimit the scope of this report. The downtown campus is found within the core of Montreal, QC, and the Macdonald campus is located in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, QC. The downtown campus includes mainly historic buildings, while the Macdonald campus includes a large farm.
McGill is proud to own three nature conservatories for preservation, research and exploration. The McGill community is encouraged to visit and experience the natural beauty that lies within proximity of downtown Montreal.
Gault Nature Reserve:
The Gault Nature Reserve, situated on Mont St. Hilaire just 32 km from Montreal, protects (1000 hectares) the largest remaining remnant of the primeval forests of the St. Lawrence River Valley. It is recognized nationally and internationally for its scientific and patrimonial significance. The mountain and its surroundings comprise the first site in Canada to be designated as a Biosphere Reserve under the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Program.
Wilder and Helen Penfield Nature Conservancy
The Conservancy is located on Lake Memphrémagog, 100 km southeast of Montreal, and offers laboratories that are well equipped for most routine (and some not-so-routine) limnological analyses. The building includes a wet lab, indoor accommodation for up to 6 researchers, a kitchen, and domestic facilities. As well as shoreline, the land attached to the station includes about a square kilometre of forest. Streams, rivers and more than 30 nearby lakes and ponds offer a wide range of study sites. The station is open from May to October.
Molson Nature Reserve:
Donated to McGill University as a nature conservation centre for use in study and research, the Molson Nature Reserve is located 10 minutes from the Macdonald Campus. The 51-hectare parcel of land consists of forest, woodland marshes, swamps and wetland, and provides habitat for wildlife and plant species, some of which are unique to the area.
Morgan Arboretum:
Located on the western tip of the island of Montreal is Canada's largest arboretum. This 245-hectare ""enchanted forest,"" originally assembled by the Morgan family and turned over to McGill University in 1945, has not only served as a unique educational resource, but also provided enjoyment to generations of supporters and visitors.

The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:
The hospital was excluded from the scope of this report as it is operated by the McGill University Health Centre, a separate legal body of McGill University.
The Emile A. Lods Agronomy Research Centre consists of approximately 65 hectares of research land, buildings, and specialized equipment and is operated under the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. It is not far from the Macdonald Campus in Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue; however, it is not located within the campus boundaries.
