Programs selected for this credit were based on the methodology proposed by AASHE for institutions that do not, as matter of policy, require specific learning outcomes for programs (see excerpt from credit requirement below).
"Institutions that do not specify learning outcomes as a matter of policy or standard practice may report graduates from sustainability-focused programs (i.e. majors, minors, concentrations and the equivalent as reported for the Undergraduate Program and Graduate Program credits) and other programs that require the successful completion of one or more sustainability courses (as reported for the Academic Courses credit) in lieu of the above criteria."
The methodology used to identify the number of graduates from programs that require successful completion of one or more sustainability courses was as follows:
1. Programs' faculties were first identified based on the offering of one or more sustainability courses (as identified in AC-1). This is in line with the requirements for this credit, as it is currently not McGill policy to report specific learning outcomes for courses, programs, or departments.
2. From that initial selection, programs from each faculty were selected based on the required courses and overall commitment to ensure that students are socially, economically, and environmentally conscientious of the potential implications of theory presented in their required courses.
3. Following the identification of degree programs that satisfy this criteria, the number of degrees granted for each program were compiled for the 2013-2014 academic year (most recent data available).
The information presented here is self-reported. While AASHE staff review portions of all STARS reports and institutions are welcome to seek additional forms of review, the data in STARS reports are not verified by AASHE. If you believe any of this information is erroneous or inconsistent with credit criteria, please review the process for inquiring about the information reported by an institution or simply email your inquiry to stars@aashe.org.
