A brief description of the child care program, policy, or practice:
The McGill Childcare Centre, also known officially as the Centre de la Petite Enfance de McGill, serves 106 children of McGill students, staff and faculty. The McGill Childcare Centre is a non-profit corporation holding permits from the City of Montreal and the Quebec Government. It has been in operation since 1973 and is governed by an elected Board of Directors composed of 9 members; 7 parents, 1 community representative, 1 staff member. The philosophy of the McGill Daycare is based on the belief that children learn through hands-on, age appropriate activities that enhance a child's creativity and sense of discovery. Children learn about the world around them through play. Through an individualized approach within a group setting, the staff strives to provide the children with a consistent warm environment. The open-door policy and emphasis on the team approach to childcare makes parental participation fundamental. The Daycare administration, staff, parents and volunteers help to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment for the children.
