A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:
SEDE's "Burst Your Bubble" campaign aims to give McGill students the chance to see Montreal beyond the scope of the downtown campus and surrounding area. We explore some of Montreal’s ethno-cultural and social richness in order to enhance our understanding and appreciation of our many diverse backgrounds and identities. Leadership For Life! - offered by the First-Year Office - is a free one-day conference for first-year students featuring workshops and panel discussions at McGill's downtown campus. The 2011 edition will take place on January 15; it will include a leadership fair showcasing a wide variety of volunteer opportunities across Montreal. Offered workshops include: Glee: Inclusion and Inclusive Leaders: Disability Re-defined Students will leave this workshop with a new, radical way of thinking about disability which will enable them to create inclusive and welcoming environments for people with disabilities at McGill. Glee: Leadership and Diversity - Getting Everyone Involved This workshop will touch on some of the benefits and challenges of diversity and inclusion in our society. We will also discuss how universities are responding to greater diversity within the student, staff, and faculty bodies, and the need for leadership in creating inclusive activities and spaces within the university context.
