Completed an inventory of space, degree days and energy consumption in collaboration with Planning and Finance respectively, to produce a report with normalized energy intensity and GHGs 1990-2008. Developing sustainable building guidelines for new buildings and renovations/construction. Promoting plan to community for buy-in (target occupant energy consumption).

A brief summary of the climate plan’s short-term goals:
Fulfill a Ministry of Education directive to reduce energy intensity by 14% by 2010. To this end, a 9-step energy action plan has been approved by the Vice-Principal (Administrative and Finance) and submitted to the Ministry:
1: Approval of the action plan for energy efficiency by University management.
2: Facilities, Operations and Development is assigned the responsibility for McGill’s energy efficiency action plan.
3: Development of an energy plan for every building.
4: Determination of the quantity of greenhouse-gas emissions.
5: 12% reduction in energy intensity relative to 2002-2003 by 2012 (FY 2011-2012, as stated in the Energy Mgmt Plan) and 30% reduction in GHG emissions relative to 2002-2003 by 2010.
6: Implementation of energy efficiency projects.
7: On-going adoption of a sustainable development policy for any new building.
8: Adoption of a sustainable development policy for existing buildings.
9: Training program on building systems valuing sustainable development.
