A brief description of programs, policies, infrastructure investments, outreach efforts, and/or other factors that contributed to the diversion rate:
General recycling (paper/cardboard, glass/metal/plastic) is offered in strategic locations (high traffic areas, food service locations, lounges/social spaces, etc.). National Waste Reduction Week is also held annually to promote better waste handling practices. Clean and Green Campaign is a campaign that facilitates the removal of superfluous furniture and equipment from administrative and academic units on both campuses. Aside from the obvious environmental benefits, this FREE cleanup was intended to promote and provide comfort and safety by effectively freeing up much-needed space. In keeping with the University's environmental policies, material collected was delivered to the Eco-Centre for reuse, recycling or proper disposal; diversion rates range from approximately 85%-95%. [Last edition of the campaign held in 2006; suspended due to insufficient budget available to continue.]
