A brief description of the campaign(s):
1. Rethink Pledge - McGill community members are asked to commit to at least five (5) actions towards reducing their environmental impact while they are on campus, whether in a lab or in a residence (12/07-5/08). http://www.mcgill.ca/rethink/what/pledge/ Défi climat (replaced the Rethink pledge in 2008) - A province-wide educational awareness and mobilization campaign targeted at businesses and public institutions. This campaign challenges individuals at McGill to reduce their greenhouse gas consumption by committing to a variety of more sustainable actions (such as recycling, taking shorter showers, and eating less meat). http://www.deficlimat.qc.ca/deficlimat2011/en/home 2. ERC "Fight the Power" Energy Challenge - Students living in residence compete to make their residence the lowest energy consumer. Energy readings are taken every week for 4 weeks (2 weeks baseline, 2 weeks competition) usually in January-February.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign(s):
1. The Rethink Pledge helps to raise awareness among students and staff about their individual impact on sustainability, as well as illustrate the actions that they can take to reduce this impact. Over 2,000 signatures have been collected since the pledge began. 2. In 2011, 93 McGill individuals participated collectively committing to lifestyle changes that will reduce their GHG emissions by 116 tons. 3. The ERC "Fight the Power" Energy Challenge reduces energy consumption, as well as teaches students ways to reduce their individual impact.
