A brief description of the institution’s main campus and other aspects of the institutional boundary used to complete this report:

The institutional boundary for this report is the main academic campus of MIT, which is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The boundary includes all schools from both the undergraduate and graduate programs. The scope is defined by buildings and land owned and operated by MIT for academic purposes. Commercial real estate investment operations and off-campus facilities in other cities are excluded. The institutional boundary does not include leased spaces, with the exception of the greenhouse gas credit responses. To comply with OSHA submittals, the "Workplace Health and Safety" credit adopts a larger scope and includes Haystack, Bates, and the Endicott House.

Which of the following features are present on campus and which are included within the institutional boundary?:
Present? Included?
Agricultural school No No
Medical school No No
Other professional school with labs or clinics (e.g. dental, nursing, pharmacy, public health, veterinary) No No
Museum Yes Yes
Satellite campus Yes No
Farm larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres No No
Agricultural experiment station larger than 2 hectares or 5 acres No No
Hospital No No

The rationale for excluding any features that are present from the institutional boundary:

MIT has a few specialized research campuses that reside outside of Cambridge, MA. Some are located in Massachusetts, whereas others are located abroad. These satellite entities are commonly distinguished from MIT's Cambridge academic campus.
