A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation:
New student orientation is organized in part around themes raised by the College's Core Curriculum, in which sustainability is an important theme. Hence every year there are activities organized around raising sustainability awareness. Students are given an introduction to the College's commitment to sustainability. Issues brought up in orientation, including sustainability, are revisited again, multiple times, in the core curriculum. For sustainability, this begins with First Year Seminar 130, Perspectives on the Environment. The link below describes how Mountain Challenge, a private outdoor educationa and leadership development organization, provides team and community building activities, travels to wilderness locations for all MC freshmen participating in orientation, and facilitates social sustainbility discussions on wellness and justice, among other topics.
