Which of the following best describes the institution’s approach to rainwater management?:
No written policies, plans or guidelines, but green infrastructure and LID practices are used

A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:

Wisconsin has several state regulations pertaining to stormwater management, which Marquette must adhere to. Two of these include DNR regulation NR 151 and NR 216. According to the DNR website:

“To meet the requirements of the federal Clean Water Act, DNR developed the Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (WPDES) Storm Water Discharge Permit Program which is administered under the authority of ch. NR 216, Wis. Adm. Code [PDF 197KB, Exit DNR]. The WPDES Storm Water Program regulates the discharge of storm water in Wisconsin from three potential sources:

Construction sites
Industrial facilities
Municipal separate storm sewer systems (MS4s)

Regulated storm water discharges are considered point sources, so owners or operators of these sources are required to receive a WPDES permit for their discharge. This permitting mechanism is designed to prevent storm water runoff from washing harmful pollutants into local surface waters such as streams, rivers, lakes or coastal waters.”

For Marquette this means many of the soft areas converted to buildings would not be allowed without stormwater retention or the occupation of more green space. A specific example of this was the acquisition of Norris Park when building Eckstein Hall, Zilber Hall and Engineering Hall.
