Marquette holds deeply the idea of striving to develop men and women who will dedicate their lives to the service of other by actively entering into the struggle for a more just society. This guiding principle heavily influenced the Strategic Plan. Five of the seven goals presented in the Strategic Plan directly affect the social aspect of sustainability. Several of these goals are academic-based, and emphasize the need to develop students in a way to positively contribute to a more just world after graduation.

The Strategic Plan addresses the economic aspect of sustainability through goals encouraging affordability and increasing the university’s endowment. Marquette aims to be as inclusive and diverse as possible. In order to attain this goal, the Strategic Plan asks for increase to financial aid programs. The Strategic Plan also calls for increasing the endowment to help ensure the university achieves its institutional aspirations. An increased endowment would fortify the university’s operational and capital budget structures, allowing for further cost efficiency.
