Is the institution currently designated as a Fair Trade College or University?:
Yes

A brief description of the institution’s Fair Trade initiatives, including the year formal designation was achieved and/or renewed:

MacEwan University was officially designated a Fair Trade Campus by the Canadian Fair Trade Network in April 2017.

As required by the designation, Food Services undergoes a series of important initiatives to ensure the campus is compliant. This includes;
- Signage and posters at all applicable food service locations
- Annual events celebrating the campus' Fair Trade designation
- A push to increase Fairtrade options on campus.

Partners, such as the Office of Sustainability, help keep the campus educated about Fair Trade with additional events and activities.
Events in the past included Fair Trade Breakfasts, Fair Trade Holidays, a speaker series on Fair Trade and various outreach events in order to raise awareness for Fair Trade items on campus and the overall impact of food sourcing on a global scale.
The last Friday of the month is declared Fair Trade Friday, and the MacEwan community is invited to a cup of tea or coffee, or a sample of fair trade chocolate, over some conversation about what fair trade means to us.
