A brief description of the institution’s employee community service initiatives:
Unpaid leave with the guarantee of re-employment have been granted to to staff members in the past. This is generally subject to supervising bodies within each department.
According to the Collective Agreement by the MacEwan Staff Association (pg. 50) leave of absence without pay for up to two months may be granted, provided the Employee requests such leave at least two weeks prior to the commencement of the leave. Personal Leave may be granted to staff members for up to thirty-five (35) hours per calendar year (pg. 47f.)
Faculty members may apply for sabbatical leave, which fulfills at least one or more of the following purposes: Research, scholarship, or artistic creation; a course of study related to teaching or professional practice; or work in pursuit of a graduate credential. (stated in the Collective Agreement (pg 59 ff.) by the MacEwan Faculty Association)
Furthemore, the Provost may grant leaves of absence without pay to Tenure-Track or Tenured Members as is considered appropriate in the circumstances (pg. 57).
