A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:
The Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) has a communications studies program that is similar to MacEwan University's in that it can focus on communications relating to the environment. Professor Lucille Mazo has connected with professors at USFQ who have similar interests to hers. In 2012 the first two communications students accompanied the Department of Biological Science tropical rainforest ecology field study course to Ecuador and conducted research on the role of the media in educating the general public on environmental issues. Last year Lucille accompanied four students and spent a week at USFQ working with students and researchers in their communications program. This year, two faculty members and eight students from the Bachelor of Communication Studies program will be there between May 2-13, 2014 to study the following projects.
1. The Communication of Nutrition in Ecuadorian Culture
2. Examining Individual Comfort Levels When Speaking English as a Second Language
3. Understanding Organics at the Grassroots Level: An Analysis of Canadian and Ecuadorian Perceptions
4. Ecuadorian Food, Culture and Communication
5. Strategic Communication of Sustainable Practices in Higher Education
