A brief description of the mentoring relationship and activities:
Macalester was previously a member of the Minnesota Sustainability Connections group, which is composed of Sustainability Staff from campuses around the state. The purpose of the group was to foster conversations about sustainability in higher education on MN campuses, share knowledge, collaborate on projects, and coordinate a collective effort on sustainability issues pertinent to Minnesota. This group did not survive the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, Macalester is now part of the Upper Midwest Association for Campus Sustainability. This organization has similar goals. The Macalester sustainability office has worked to develop relationships with other campus sustainability offices in the state by organizing meetings, hosting tours and retreats, and hosting webinar live streams. For example, we have hosted other sustainability office in the twin cities to view streamed presentations and we have hosted retreats for sustainability office staff participating in UMACS (the Upper Midwest Association for College Sustainability). These activities have proven to be extremely beneficial and have helped foster relationships between organizations in the Twin Cities. In addition, as part of Macalester's AASHE membership we participate in a mentorship program in which we serve as a mentor to a sustainability Director at Knox College in Galesburg Illinois.
