Waste Reduction Advocate Training

A brief description of the employee educators program (1st program):
The Waste Reduction Advocate Program is organized by the Sustainability office in collaboration with custodial services. Participants participate in a series of 3 half hour long trainings over the course of a month in order to familiarize themselves with waste reduction efforts on campus. The first session focuses upon on-campus waste sorting and waste reduction efforts and features presentations from custodial staff, the second session focuses upon waste reduction efforts in the county, and the third session focuses upon an overview of campus goals and personal goals for educating others and implementing waste reduction techniques

Sustainability from Above and Below Campus Tours

A brief description of the employee educators program (2nd program):
Beginning in Fall, 2022 Macalester began offering Sustainability from Above and Below tours. These tours are targeted towards faculty and staff (although we will not turn students away) and feature often invisible sustainability efforts that go on here on campus. Common tours offered include a solar panel roof tour and a steam tunnel tour during which we discuss the campus energy mix and what more is planned to increase renewable energy production on campus, a Ground tour, and a food waste/food security tour. Similar to the workshops above, training for these tours involve several preparatory meetings.

Additional Programs 

A brief description of all other employee peer-to-peer sustainability outreach and education programs:
January Thaw/Spring Bloom Peer Educatin Program: Twice a year, Macalester offers peer education sessions. Organizations from across campus can propose peer education opportunities. The Sustainability Office partners with colleagues across campus (as well as external partners) to offer peer education programs. Some topics that the office has covered is Introduction to MN GreenCorps, Sustainable Grounds Tours, Sustainable Food Tours, Bike Repair 101 and Campus Sustainability 101. Preparation for the session with campus community partners involves pre- session planning meetings and post session reflections
