A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Sustainability goals and ideals are integrated throughout the new student orientation. Orientation features a Zero Waste Dinner for new students and families that introduces our waste-reducing goals and familiarizes new students with our waste sorting system. Orientation also includes a "sustainable scott" training in which new students are educated about the importance of waste reduction and given a basic lesson in sorting trash properly. Sustainability office staff also participate in tabling events during orientation, host fist year workshops and wellness breaks focused upon sustainability, and provide maps to sustainability-related resources on campus including the free swap, the bike rental program, the and the community gardens/food cooperative.
