We combined the transportation survey with our sustainability literacy survey. The questions included queries about both pre-and post pandemic norms for traveling both to and from campus, and to places in the community for appointments, internships, errands, etc. The survey was administered to students in the fall of 2020 and asked about current practices and (for those who were on campus in spring of 2020) pre-pandemic norms.
The survey was distributed in the daily newsletter and on the class Facebook pages.

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting:

Macalester conducts surveys among among faculty and staff. The survey was a administered via our daily newsletter, and included options for respondents to select whether they use a certain mode of transportation "never", "rarely", "sometimes", "often", "always", and that they "don't have access to this form of transportation". We only counted the "always" response and tallied the totals for each sustainable transportation type, divided by the total number of people who filled out the survey.
