Does the institution host a food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty among students?:
Yes
A brief description of the food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource:
Macalester College's Student Services and Relations Committee hosts a food bank known as "Open Pantry". Open Pantry first opened for the 2017-2018 academic year. During the 2019-2020 school year, the pantry was open on Mondays and Thursdays, from 9- 5pm. It is also located near a kitchen for students to use. An inventory is kept so those who utilize this resource can anonymously write down what they shop to best collect data for what is in demand. In addition, Macalester installed a Little Free Pantry in June of this year. This outdoor pantry is in the form of a large weatherproof box which is being renovated into a permanent structure. Local community members are encouraged to take what they need, and leave what they can. Open Pantry has remained available during the summer and is open three times a week from 8- 8 pm.
