This group maintains an interest list of alternative commuters and sends outreach material to the group. In addition, the Sustainability Office pays for a coffee break twice a month for this group. Members of this group act as peer resources for others looking to try a different transportation options, particularly for bicycle commuting and learning how to use the public transportation system.

The Sustainability Office helps with training.

The Sustainability Office sponsors an alternative commuting coffee break twice a month. The Sustainability Office and Wellness and Health at Macalester (WHAM) committee co-sponsor bicycle commuting events for staff, including the annual Bike, Walk to Work Day celebrations.

The Sustainability Staff Network is modeled on our successful Sustainability Student Network. The Sustainability Office keeps a moodle group, sends out information and event listings and develops staff trainings.

Supervisors of students involved in the Sustainability Student Worker network are all invited as well as the Sustainability Advisory Committee members and former members. New employees are encouraged to take part too.


A brief description of the formal training that the employee educators receive to prepare them to conduct peer outreach (2nd program):

The Sustainability Office sponsors a regular meeting at the beginning of the semester to talk about how the network works and what support the Sustainability Office can offer. All supervisors are included on the Sustainability Office newsletter list and have a dedicated moodle group to promote communication.


A brief description of the financial and/or administrative support the institution provides to the program (e.g. annual budget and/or paid faculty/staff coordination) (2nd program):

The Sustainability Office supports the students and supervisors by troubleshooting and offering support for projects. Some offices have requested Sustainability Small Project Funds for projects. At the end of the year, the Sustainability Office typically sponsors a recognition lunch for all of the students and supervisors in the network.
