A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :
During the 2008-2009 academic years, the Sustainability Office engaged the Macalester community in thinking strategically about sustainability in order to create a definition and vision of sustainability for the College. The guiding question was, “How does sustainability advance the core mission of Macalester College?” A planning team composed of the Sustainability Advisory Committee as well as other staff, students and faculty developed the strategic directions and priority areas. Nearly 400 members of the Macalester community provided input to the process. The results of the strategic planning process provided the backbone of the Sustainability Plan and related Climate Action Plan. The process was documented and analyzed in
