A brief description of the themed housing:
Macalester's EcoHouse is a student residence, renovated to be more sustainable and to provide student research opportunities. Project EcoHouse began in 2006 with the student-led proposals to renovate the 1950s-era house with "green" renovations. The live-in laboratory began in the summer of 2007 with the move-in of four selected summer residents. Students can elect to do an independent study project through the Environmental Science department and passed projects have included the installation of a commercial energy monitor, guides to sustainable cooking, and the like. Meanwhile, the house fosters an intentional community for those who'd like to live with a minimal footprint.
