Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Endeavor Together: Community and Place for First Year Students
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
Endeavor Together is a series of programs for first year students that connects them to place and builds community through outdoor activities and cultural exchange. It starts with an immersive, multi-day, pre-orientation program for diverse groups of incoming first year students. It focuses on engaging and connecting international students and domestic students, including students of color. The program features outdoor activities and challenges led by student leaders, and bolstered by faculty and staff mentors. Students engage with peers of diverse backgrounds from across the country and the world, and engage in activities throughout the Luther College region that develop a sense of place and belonging. Endeavor Together simultaneously develops a sense of place in new students, builds community, and directly addresses goals related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. By combining these objectives in a single, immersive program during students' first week on campus, the program sets a tone and lays a foundation for all future sustainability efforts. Endeavor Together continues with seasonal programs throughout the first year that follow the same model of outdoor activities and cultural exchange.
