The governing body of Loyola University Chicago is the Board of Trustees. The Board elects its own members. Pursuant to the Bylaws, there are up to 50 seats on the Board. As of November 2022, there are 35 Trustees.

The University Senate is an organization for University shared governance at Loyola University Chicago, and serves in an advisory capacity to the President of the University. Membership consists of 27 faculty, staff, students, and administrators. The University Provost, Chair of Faculty Council, Chair of Staff Council, Vice President of Human Resources/Chief Human Resources Officer, and the Vice President of Student Development also serve in an ex officio capacity.
