Which of the following best describes the institution’s approach to rainwater management?:
Comprehensive policies, plans or guidelines that require LID practices for all new projects
A brief description of the institution’s green infrastructure and LID practices:
Loyola has installed permeable pavers, drought-tolerant landscaping, rain-water collection cisterns, and living rooftops that all seek to reduce and divert stormwater run-off that otherwise would enter sewer systems, requiring energy-intensive cleaning and purification processes.
Our rain-water cisterns connect to Lake Michigan and feed back over 18 million gallons of water annually to the Great Lakes watershed.

A brief description of the institution’s rainwater management policy, plan, and/or guidelines that supports the responses above:
Our stormwater management strategy is mandated by Chicago Department of Water Management and includes greenroofs, infiltration systems, concrete restrictors and filters and an outfall to Lake Michigan. Loyola goes above and beyond this to enhance the campus through vegetated stormwater green infrastructure.
These efforts have received recognition from our Stormwater Management Agency (MWRD Sustainability Award) and the state chapter of the Association for Landscape Architecture.
