WelcomeWeek Leaders

A brief description of the student educators program (1st program):
WelcomeWeek is the kick-off to each school year and provides a series of programs related to student's experience at Loyola.
The Office of Sustainability trains the 40 WelcomeWeek Leaders on sustainability topics including actions and thematic programs. Additionally events take place including large meals, community tours, UPass training, and How to Live Green at Loyola workshop that reinforce sustainability concepts.

A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (1st program):
This is for all transfer and first year students. This year 3,230 students participated.

WelcomeWeek Leaders are trained by the Office of Sustainability staff.

Please note, Although these peer educators work a total of 1,200 hours, we only attribute 10% of their time (events, tours, trainings) to sustainability.

Residence Life Student Staff

A brief description of the student educators program (2nd program):
Residence Life at Loyola has a robust sustainability program for the 4,851 students that live on-campus. These Resident Assistants (RAs) receive sustainability training each year and are expected to pass this on to their residents through social and educational programming.

A brief description of the student educators program’s target audience (2nd program):
All residential students. #4,851.

RAs work roughly 20 hours per week for 32 weeks. We attributed 5% of this time to sustainability as it is incorporated in 5 weekly programs throughout the year. All RAs are trained by the Office of Sustainability and access OoS programs when requested.

Note; Although the RAs may always be ready to serve as sustainability resources (work orders, educational programming, etc), we only attributed 5% of their time to specific sustainability work.

Campus Sustainability Interns

A brief description of the student educators program (3rd program):
Interns conduct a number of outreach programs including Zero Waste Games, Themed Weeks, Workshops, Tabling, Zero Waste Programs including Compost Bucket, Think Green and Give and the Clean Plate Challenge.

They are overseen by the Office of Sustainability and trained by the Director of Sustainability, Sustainability Coordinator, and office staff.

Their programs are a blend of unique offerings they develop and deliver and annual programs that meet the needs of specific audiences (ie. Dining Halls - Clean Plate Challenge).

This is available to all students but realistically only connects with ~15-20% of their peers. The # above and beyond those already covered by OLs and RAs would be ~500 off-campus students.

Additional programs 

A brief description of all other student peer-to-peer sustainability outreach and education programs:
12 student organizations on campus provide peer education on sustainability topics including food waste, sustainable agriculture, water conservation, and transportation options. Student Orgs are estimated at one hour each week engaging their members on sustainability topics. (12 orgs x 10 members x 20 weeks x 1 hour each week= 2,400 hours)
Student Government has a Chief Sustainability Officer that provides training and support to student representatives. Student Government CSO is 3 hours per week for 30 weeks = 90 hours.
The Urban Agriculture and Biodiesel Lab programs both oversee students in work and academic internships. These students support outreach on these sustainability initiatives including presentations, tours, and other engagement. Estimate is 60 students for 10 weeks (each semester plus summer) for 3 hours a week = 1,800 hours.
