The cultural assessment was developed by the campus sustainability office based on our desired information. We also looked at other schools' approved surveys as well as some questions from SULItest that where not literacy related. We chose questions that would provide the best insight into the sustainability culture of LMU.

Loyola Marymount Campus Sustainability Survey

Sustainability is defined as: the avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance.

This survey is meant to gauge knowledge of sustainability practices and environmental issues among the LMU Undergraduate population. Our hope is that, by the end of your undergraduate experience, your knowledge of these issues will have been improved by LMU’s curriculum. Please answer each question to the best of your ability.

Cultural Questions

I do not know that LMU sustainability initiatives exist.

I do not know that it exists.

A brief description of how representative samples were reached (if applicable) and how the cultural assessment is administered:

The Office of Institutional Research, whose role is to distribute surveys on campus, gave us a representative sample based on their procedures of students for both incoming and graduating undergraduate students. This office distributed the survey for us as well through the qualtrics system to each targeted person of the represented sample. The survey will be distributed via a list of a random samples of students from the Department of Institutional Research. This sample includes 100 Freshman and 100 Seniors. The first 10 students who complete the survey will receive a $10 Amazon gift card as an incentive. It will be evenly distributed and targeted to reach a representative sample from each school/college to ensure it is an accurate Representative sample.

A brief summary of results from the cultural assessment, including a description of any measurable changes over time:

The cultural assessment showed that the awareness of environmental issues and initiatives on LMU's campus is relatively low. Most survey takers indicated they were only slightly knowledgable about community initiatives. However, most indicated that they would like to learn more. we will follow up next year with facutly staff component as well as same seniors in 4 years to find out how knowledge has changed over time.
