Loyalist's Environmental Technician/Technologist program includes a course in Waste Management. For several years, the Waste Management students have audited the College's waste and recycling bins to assess waste composition and developed recommendations for improved sorting performance. As a result of this work, the students launched a pilot composting project on campus, gained first-hand experience in developing and implementing an environmental program and have provided data that supports a signage redesign pilot project.

Students of Loyalist's Principles of Sustainability & Social Responsibility course were tasked with investigating the College's sustainability performance using the STARS framework. The assignment involved researching and completing individual credits as well as investigating the practices at other institutions and developing recommendations for improving performance. The information they have gathered has been used in the completion of this STARS report (e.g. Student Commute Modal Split).
