A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution:
BUSI 2003 Community Based Projects:
BUSI 2003 Community Based Projects course (alternatively known as AEAP, Alliance Excellence Achievement Program). The students work on a wide variety of projects that differ from year to year. Our business clients are a compliment of manufacturing, service, retail, service, not-for-profit, and government organizations. The types of projects range from developing business plans, developing training programs through to developing sustainability plans.
Each year the community-based projects change based on the needs of the participating companies. For instance, proposed projects with a sustainability theme in 2014 included developing a municipal energy conservation and demand management plan, developing a “Youth Room” strategic business plan to give youth a place where they belong by creating events and activities that are free of prejudice, bullying and violence, and planning a benefit concert to fund raise for a local charity.
CYW Poverty Challenge:
Each year, Loyalist's Child and Youth Worker program hosts the CYW Poverty Challenge - a real-world simulation activity that provides students with insight into social issues that are experienced every day in their community, and helps them become agents of social change. Students assume the role of a person living in poverty and take on a real-life scenario that has been experienced by somebody living in the community.
