Yes

A brief description of the institution’s supportive sustainability partnership(s) with the local community:

LIU Post has formed a supportive relationship with Long Island Progressive Coalition (LIPC). LIPC is a community-based organization dedicated to promoting sustainable development, revitalizing local communities, enhancing human dignity, creating effective democracy, and achieving economic, racial, and social justice. Each semester since Spring 2010, between one and three undergraduate sociology students intern with the agency. Every intern assists with the wide range of ongoing campaigns within LIPC, including PowerUp Communities (which focuses on helping homeowners make energy-saving home improvements) and a campaign for sustainable development. LIPC interns in Spring 2015 started helping to organize a conference of 40 progressive agencies on Long Island.

Does the institution have at least one formal sustainability partnership with the local community that meets the criteria as “collaborative”?:
Yes

A brief description of the institution's collaborative sustainability partnership(s):

LIU Post has formed a collaborative sustainability partnership with the Nassau County Soil and Water Conservation District. By collaborating on projects such as rain gardens and rain barrels, LIU Post has been able to add a unique educational tool to its various academic programs that incorporate sustainability into the curriculum. Presently, this partnership is focused just on water conservation and implementing various green infrastructure projects that could serve not just the LIU Post community, but the local community as well. This ongoing partnership gave rise to the first installation of a rain garden at a university on Long Island; it is also one of the largest rain gardens installed throughout the entire Long Island region.
