Part 1. Hazardous waste minimization and disposal
A brief description of steps taken to reduce hazardous, special (e.g. coal ash), universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:
Properly storing materials until they are ready to be picked up by a licensed hazardous waste disposal company.
A brief description of how the institution safely disposes of hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:
Our hazardous waste disposal company is scheduled to pick up any hazardous waste that is coordinated by the sustainability manager to have all the department be ready for a pickup. They will package all materials and take off site.
A brief description of any significant hazardous material release incidents during the previous three years, including volume, impact and response/remediation:
There has not been any significant hazardous material release incidents during the previous three years.
A brief description of any inventory system employed by the institution to facilitate the reuse or redistribution of laboratory chemicals:
Departments will reuse laboratory chemicals if possible, but if it is deemed unsafe they will properly store the remainder in locked cabinets until it can be properly disposed of.
Part 2. Electronic waste diversion
Does the institution have or participate in a program to responsibly recycle, reuse, and/or refurbish electronic waste generated by students?:
If yes to either of the above, provide:
All faculty, staff and students notify ResLife or facilities of any electronic waste that needs to be disposed of on campus. Facilities picks up the electronic waste and stores it on-site until the sustainability manager determines to make a bulk pickup and the recycling company will be contacted. They will then be scheduled to pick up the waste and they package it and take it off-site.
We also have an annual recycling event which is open to all faculty, staff and students.
Our e-cycling program is free to our Campus Community through A Team Recyclers.
