Lehigh instituted the HEDS (Higher Education Data Sharing Consortium) Diversity & Equity Campus Climate Survey in April 2020. This survey was sent to all undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and staff via email.
The HEDS Diversity and Equity Campus Climate Survey asks students, faculty, staff, and administrators about their:
• Perceptions of their institution’s climate
• Perceptions of how their institution supports diversity and equity
• Experiences with discrimination and harassment at their institution
Data was collected over a three week period, and anonymized results were sent to the Office of Institutional Research and Strategic Analytics

A brief description of the most recent assessment findings and how the results are used in shaping policy, programs, and initiatives:
• Overall campus climate: 76% of undergraduate students, 78% of graduate students, 66% of faculty, and 78% of staff/administrators are generally to very satisfied with the overall campus climate at Lehigh.
• Diversity: 53% of undergraduate students, 67% of graduate students, 51% of faculty, and 71% of staff/administrators are generally to very satisfied with the campus experience/environment regarding diversity at Lehigh.
• Sense of community: 69% of undergraduate students, 68% of graduate students, 63% of faculty, and 72% of staff/administrators are generally to very satisfied with the extent to which they experience a sense of belonging or community at Lehigh.
• All belonging: 47% of undergraduate students, 60% of graduate students, 40% of faculty, and 55% of staff/administrators are generally to very satisfied with the extent to which they feel all community members experience a sense of belonging or community at Lehigh.
The Office of Diversity, Inclusion & Equity, under the direction of the Vice President for Equity & Community, is continuing to use these results to help shape programming for the upcoming year to focus on key indicators. These will include opportunities to discuss these results so that campus community members can take into account the attitudes of other community members to better recognize their own implicit biases and work to overcome those. The results are also being used to shape action steps for both the plan to become an antiracist institution and the action steps to support the five year Diversity & Inclusion Strategic Plan.
