Does the institution advocate for public policies that support campus sustainability or that otherwise advance sustainability at the municipal/local level?:
No
A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level, including the issues, legislation, and ordinances for or against which the institution has advocated:
Some of our advocacy priorities at the local level are (1) Health and Wellness and (2)Multi-Modal Connectivity. Encouraging advocacy for increased health and wellness services throughout the city includes cooperation with community centers and K-12 services. Multi-Modal Connectivity efforts include supporting the expansion of car-share and bike-share programs within city limits to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles.
A multimodal grant opportunity became available through the State of PA. Lehigh University approached the City of Bethlehem to apply for the grant with Lehigh University providing 90% of the match dollars. The grant would be for a redesign of S. New St to make streetscape improvements. City Council had to vote to approve the grant. Community Affairs, Government Affairs, the City of Bethlehem Mayor, and State Senator Lisa Boscola (representative), met with the State Funding Authority to advocate for this grant. We were awarded $1,000,000.00.
