Responsible Community Strategic Plan Committee:
To educate its students and be part of a vibrant citizenry, the college will exemplify stewardship, accountability, and concern. The institution will model a responsible community, creating intentional and meaningful connections with its students, faculty, and staff, and serving as a strong citizen and steward through service and outreach.

Priority Initiatives

Deepen the college’s academic community of learning by creating opportunities that enrich and expand intellectual life beyond the classroom.

Develop and implement summer and inter-term programs that expand the college’s educational opportunities for students.

Deepen the diversity, equity, and inclusion ethos of the college through education, policies, and practices, including establishing an office for leadership of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Develop and implement an appropriate environmental sustainability ethos through education, policies and practices across academics, student/faculty/staff engagement, operations and planning, and administration.

Expand the concept of wellness on campus through intentional programming for physical, mental/emotional, spiritual, social, intellectual wellness.

With intention, extend the responsible community ethos into the larger community through service, outreach, and the provision of community events.

Student Sustainability Committee:
Mission

The Lees-McRae Student Sustainability Council (SSC)’s mission for Lees-McRae is to make students more aware of diverse ways to live sustainably and give them the opportunity to do so. We strive to make Lees-McRae a more sustainable campus to help the environment and reduce students’ impact.

Goals

Another way of helping this new council would be money factored into the Outdoor Recreation Management budget each year. We also have some ideas for fundraising which include asking for a donation from a locally owned sustainable business or corporate sponsorships to get us started.
