Climate Action Plan Mini Symposia
A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged:
The Climate Action Plan subcommittee of the Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee held two mini-symposia on topics related to creating a Climate Action Plan. Outside presenters were engaged to discuss renewable energy topics as well as other sustainability best practices. Committee members presented research on Climate Action Plan design and implementation. All employees and students were invited to attend the sessions.
Upon completion of the aforementioned symposia, the Climate Action Plan subcommittee of the Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee presented the Climate Action Plan Framework in an open session to the campus community. Students and employees were in attendance and provided input and feedback on the framework. This information was considered in the development of the Climate Action Plan.

The creation of a Climate Action Plan framework based on input from participants.
The Climate Action Plan has been endorsed by the Student Government, the faculty and senior administration of the College. The Plan will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval and endorsement in May of 2019.

Annual Earth Days
A brief description of the campaign, including how students and/or employees were engaged (2nd campaign):
Annually, the College creates a multi-day program based around Earth Day and its principles. The Earth Days activities are attended by both students and employees. For the past six years, the Earth Days subcommittee has sponsored the Environmental Oratorical Contest. The topic: "Explain how you would improve environmental sustainability on LVC’s campus by developing a proposal for a new sustainability initiative." Frequently, sustainability-related topics are part of the College's annual Symposium. In 2018 the College invited Dr. Michael Mann, Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science at Penn State University, with joint appointments in the Department of Geosciences and the Earth and Environmental Systems Institute (EESI) to discuss climate change and his book "The Madhouse Effect: How Climate Change Denial Is Threatening Our Planet, Destroying Our Politics, and Driving Us Crazy."
A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
The Environmental Sustainability Advisory Committee considers the Oratorical Contest proposals for endorsement and/or implementation. Many students have used the items covered in their presentations to complete additional research. Many topics covered by Earth Days presentations are incorporated in class discussions.
