Does the institution own or manage land that includes or is adjacent to legally protected areas, internationally recognized areas, priority sites for biodiversity, or regions of conservation importance?:
No
A brief description of the legally protected areas, internationally recognized areas, priority sites for biodiversity, and/or regions of conservation importance:
The Fox River forms the southern border of Lawrence's main campus. The Fox River is the sixth longest river in Wisconsin and the largest tributary to the Bay of Green Bay. The Fox River is a foundational component of many communities in the Fox Valley. The Fox River was at one time heavily polluted with Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). It was not recommended for the public to swim in or eat caught fish. Begining in 2009, a clean up project has resulted in the dredging of PCBs and has greatly improved the quaility of the river. Lawrence is conscious of its position along the river and works to discourage runoff and pollution.
