Every time there is an addition or a remodel at Lawrence, new technology and research is used to ensure that the most sustainable techniques and methods are used in the building. For example, Lawrence University just redid part of a residence hall and it includes many features that are sustainable. For example, there are heating/cooling controls in each room so the residents have the control, there are four inches of styrofoam in the outer walls to create better insulation so there is less lost heat, energy efficient boilers, all lighting is LED, energy efficient windows, energy efficient appliances, bamboo, terrazel (renewable resource) for tile, took the floors from the old houses to create new furniture,
common areas have concretes floors so that it reduces the amount of chemicals needed for cleaning, carpeting-made from recycled material, planting native species surrounding the residence hall, and recycled everything that they could from the construction.
