Greenfire focuses on environmental awareness and sustainability on a local and national scale, Co-op House is a sustainable food organization, Sustainable Lawrence University Gardens (SLUG) is a student-run, non-profit project of Lawrence University. The gardens consist of a five hive honeybee apiary, perennial fruit tree orchard, and 1/4 acre annual garden with a 90-foot hoop house. SLUG is the organization that created and manages the campus garden. LU Food Recovery is an organization that takes the leftover food scraps from our dining hall to local food shelters so the food does not go to waste. And the Environmental Responsibility Committee coordinates sustainable efforts on campus, while overseeing an Environmental Initiative Grant.

The Sustainable Lawrence University Garden (SLUG) is 0.25 acre organic garden that is entirely student-managed and staffed by student volunteers. In addition to growing food for the campus cafeteria, SLUG composts approximately 35 tons of kitchen waste annually. The gardens consist of a five hive honeybee apiary, perennial fruit tree orchard, and 1/4 acre annual garden with a 90-foot hoop house.

In 2011, the student government voted to create a $5 per term ($15 per academic year) "Sustainability Fee" for all students, beginning in the 2012-2013 academic year. The Board of Trustees recently approved this fee, and the resultant fund will be managed jointly by students, faculty and staff.

Earth Week involves a variety of speakers and other student programming; the Spoerl Lecture Series is an endowed lecture series which is generally scheduled to coincide with the annual Environmental Studies symposium; the Students in Sustainable Agriculture conference is a series of speakers and workshops for student gardeners from across the country. Additionally, many student organizations bring in speakers, show films, and organize discussions around sustainable ideas and practices. Special programs such as the Extreme Ice Survey is an example of a campus program.

A brief description of wilderness or outdoors programs for students that follow Leave No Trace principles:
The Outdoor Recreation Club (ORC) is a student organization that regularly organizes outdoor trips, including kayaking, camping, hiking, trail running, and orienteering. Because ORC supplies the gear for these trips, the opportunities are available to the entire student body. Bird and Nature club fosters an appreciation for the natural world through bird-watching and othe forms of observing nature.

Sustainable China: Conservation, Commerce, and Culture is a term devoted to understanding sustainability in China and ends with a culminating experience in 5 different cities in China. The Sierra Leone experience, a Lawrence based scholarship program for children in Sierra Leone is a term of studying a a cultural aspect or environmental aspect. For a term before visiting Sierra Leone, one option for students is to take a class called : Environmental Challenges in Africs which will explore water scarcity, deforestation, desertification, mining/natural resource exploitation, wildlife conservation, urban pollution, e-waste, population issues, land use (including agriculture). marine term, semester at sea, other study abroad experiences

There is sustainability themed houses in three houses on campus, the SLUG (Sustainable Lawrence University Garden) House, Greenfire House, and Co-op house. All of these houses try to eat locally and values sustainability through actions like waste reduction, recycling, and eating local and organic food.. To share their practices with the rest of campus, they have open to campus events throughout the year.
