Does the institution have a sustainability plan that meets the criteria for this credit?:
Yes

A brief description of how multiple stakeholder groups were involved in developing the plan:

Green Roots, the campus sustainability committee, was created in 2008. The committee is comprised of representatives from the faculty, staff (including Facility Services and Student Life), and students. The chair reports directly to the president of the university.

One of the primary tasks of Green Roots is to develop a long-term sustainability agenda for the university. This plan involves four pillars - (1) energy conservation, (2) energy production, (3) consumer choice (including end-of-product-life issues like recycling and waste reduction), and (4) integrating sustainability into the curriculum.

A brief description of the plan’s measurable goals :

The sustainability plan includes reducing the university's use of fossil fuels and carbon emissions by 25% before 2020, erecting a wind turbine to provide 30% of the energy needs of the Bjorklunden lodge by 2014, increasing the overall landfill diversion rate (including recycling and composting) to 50%, increasing the number of courses with a sustainability element, and sponsoring a series of interdisciplinary speakers.

A brief description of how progress in meeting the plan’s goals is measured:

Energy production (both overall and at the Bjorklunden lodge) and carbon emissions are compared to a 2003-2008 average baseline. Waste diversion rates are obtained through Waste Management, the disposal company we contract with, and tracked historically. Sustainability-themed courses are tracked through the Environmental Studies program.
