A brief description of how the physical campus plan or amendment includes sustainability:
The most recent revision of the physical campus master plan was done in 2000. That master plan includes a number of sustainbility-related elements as guiding principles, including "Ensure that Future Projects Respect Lawrence University's Quality of Place," "Embrace the Fox River as an Integral Part of Campus," "Avoid the Intrusion of Vehicles and Parking on Campus," and reinforcing the interaction between built and natural spaces on campus.
Additionally, in 2010, the President, her Cabinet and the Board of Trustees endorsed a progressive policy for all new construction and major renovations on campus, which will shape the physical campus for years to come. The policy states that, "Ongoing building maintenance and operation as well as renovation shall incorporate principles of sustainable design, building, and operation including energy efficiency, indoor air quality, water conservation, construction site and waste management, and use of local materials. All new construction shall be designed to meet or exceed LEED Silver standards or at an equivalent level to those of a comparable rating system."
